·Why does my neck or back make a sound during an adjustment?

Actually, your neck or back may not make a "popping" sound every time you recieve an adjustment. Many adjustment techniques, however, do create the sound of a spinal "release". It is believed that the sound is caused by gas rushing in to fill the partial vacuum created when the joints are slightly seperated. None the less, it is harmless.

·Should I "crack" my neck or back a lot?

When a jammed or fixed vertebra is causing tension, it will cause another part of the spine to compensate by moving too much and "popping" a lot. The jammed part should be adjusted by a chiropractor so that the rest of the spinal column will balance and stop being so movable and noisy.

·So I'm not "adjusting" myself?

Cracking and popping your neck gives relief for a while, but soon the urge to pop or crack re-appears because the cause of the spinal tension has not been corrected.

·Do Chiropractors have medical (M.D.) degrees?

Chiropractors have a Doctor of Chiropractic (D.C.) degrees granted from chiropractic colleges. Chiropractic education and medical education are similar in some respects and different in others because chiropractors do not prescribe drugs and medical doctors do not correct the vertabral subluxation complex (spinal nerve stress).

·How long does a Chiropractic adjustment take?

Depending on the adjusting technique your chiropractor uses and condition, it may only take a relatively brief initial visit that includes a case history and evaluation. At other times, a few hours or even a few days of evaluation and spinal analysis will procede an initial adjustment.

·At what age does a Chiropractic adjustment begin?

Newborns have recieved spinal adjustments especially after difficult or trumatic births. There are case histories of infants close to death, who were adjusted in hospitals with seemingly miraculous recoveries.

·Is Chiropractic addictive?

It is possible to get use to feeling more balanced, less stressed, and more energetic as a result of periodic chiropractic care. You may become more sensitive to your body and know when you've "lost" your adjustment.
